Professional development workshop for teachers and nursery staff

Encouraging Creativity in the new EYFS.

Pete Moorhouse and Cate Peel from Filton Avenue Nursery School and Children’s Centre are running a CPD workshop looking at developing and encouraging creativity and creative thinking in early years settings especially in relation to the new EYFS.

We will gain a deeper understanding of what creativity means and explore why it is so important in early years development.

In the workshop we will focus on the approach of the pre-schools in Reggio Emilia where Pete Moorhouse attended and in-depth study course. The Reggio Emilia approach is renowned throughoutthe world for its emphasis on encouraging creativity.

We will explore the role the environment has, our role as teachers as being co- learners, our view of the child, the importance of documentation and the benefits of collaboration with parents and community.

In the workshop we will look at the endless possibilities in which young children can express their creative ideas and explore the world. We will also be showing examples of open ended creative exploration and creative project work to give ideas and inspiration for your setting.
