More Information

This sculpture celebrates the rich manufacturing heritage of Houghton Regis and Dunstable – the very reason why many families relocated here from London. The cog is a symbol of the engineering that the area was so proud of, with its car industry and well as many other manufacturing industries. Two or more cogs working in tandem are called a transmission as two meshing cogs transmit rotational motion. The cogs are also found on Houghton Regis town crest.

The sculpture was designed by Artist Pete Moorhouse. Ideas were informed by community consultation and workshops with several local schools; St Georges, Icknield Lower School, King’s Houghton Middle School and Central Bedfordshire College.
